How this site is made
Colophon
Typefaces, technology, and where every figure and number comes from.
01Type and colour
Set in Newsreader and IBM Plex
Newsreader
Headings and pull quotes, at its display optical size (self-hosted). Production Type, SIL Open Font License.
IBM Plex Sans
Running text and interface. IBM, SIL Open Font License.
Plex Mono
Figure numbers, measurements, dates and DOIs.
Six type sizes, one accent colour (a deep vermilion that also draws the signal trace), warm paper and carbon ink, and a dark instrument surface for the central experiment. Every text colour meets WCAG AA contrast in both light and dark themes.
02Figures
Provenance of every figure
Figures are numbered once across the whole site. Schematics are labelled as such; recorded data appear only when the recordings themselves are published here.
| Fig. | What it shows |
|---|---|
| 1 | A molecule passing through a solid-state nanopore and the current blockade it produces.Illustrative schematic, not experimental data, not to scale. |
| 2 | The features of a single blockade event used to tell proteins apart: depth, duration and shape. doi:10.1002/smtd.202300676Illustrative redraw of the analysis concept, not experimental data. |
| 3 | Two conformations of a tRNA and the distinct current levels they produce. doi:10.1093/nar/gkaf1411Illustrative schematic of the concept, not experimental data. |
| 4 | Cover of Analytical Chemistry 95(13), 4 April 2023, featuring the ultra-thin silicon nitride membrane study. doi:10.1021/acs.analchem.3c00023Cover image designed by Mia Kluth; © American Chemical Society.Journal cover artwork. |
| 5 | The four stages of a resistive-pulse measurement.Illustrative schematic, not to scale. |
| 6 | Resistive-pulse sensing: how a translocating molecule changes the ionic current.Interactive explainer with illustrative values, not experimental data. |
| 7 | Ion current rectification in a conical nanopore.Interactive explainer with illustrative values, not experimental data. |
| 8 | Ionic-current trace recorded through a solid-state nanopore.Recorded data; acquisition conditions in the sidecar file. |
| 9 | Blockade depth against dwell time for recorded translocation events.Recorded data; event table exported from the analysis pipeline. |
